WALN, Joseph Altho

Source: Greencastle Star Press 26 Jan 1895 p 3

Died on Jan 14, 1895 at his home in Floyd Township, Joseph Altho Waln son of Joseph R. and Emma A. Waln, aged 11 years 6 months and 27 days.  The deceased was a bright, promising boy. His death was very unexpected he having been able to attended school only four days previous to his death.  His mother and only brother are all the family that survive him, his father having died several years ago. Altho was a kind, obedient and affectionate son and although young had a wife circle of friends who sincerely mourn his loss.  His perseverance and close application to his school studies had already place him on a high plane in the educational world, and the high esteem in which he was held by his teachers and fellow students marks his noble character.  Truly it seems that death loves a shining mark; but since his Creator in his wisdom has seen fit to remove him from this low ground of snow and give him a place among the angels who sing around his throne, we can give him up, known our loss is his eternal gain.  Our little friend can we forget? And must the grave eternal sever? He lingers in our memories yet, And in our hearts he lives forever. He rests in realms of light and love, He dwells upon the mount of glory, He basks in beams of bless above, And shouts to tell the pleasing story… by his teacher, WH Randel.
